Lassen Volcano Adventure Camp Update

Posted June 5, 2014

Cornerstone Community Bank has joined eight other sponsors in underwriting tents at Lassen Volcanic National Park’s planned “Volcano Adventure Camp” for youth groups.

“Volcano Adventure Camp will be a permanent home for the national park’s Youth Camping Program where kids, particularly many who otherwise would never get to visit a national park, experience the outdoors and learn about nature while camping,” said Lassen Park Foundation Executive Director Kristen Gray.

“With Cornerstone’s $7,500 contribution, we’re just one tent away from having all the youth tents sponsored,” she continued. “We have just two pavilions yet to be sponsored at $50,000 each that come with naming rights, and we’re still accepting donations of $500 or more that will be recognized on a donor panel in the campground.”

The goal is to raise $604,000 for Volcano Adventure Camp. The National Park Service has allocated $228,850; the balance will come from private donations like Cornerstone Community Bank’s contribution.

The project reconstructs the existing Crags Campground for use by youth groups. Volcano Adventure Camp will include ten tent cabins for youth, additional tent cabins for group leaders and resident researchers, pavilions where youth will gather for camp programs, restrooms, showers, an area for groups to set up their own tents and areas for campfire programs.

Other Volcano Adventure Camp tent sponsors include: Robert Ono and Betty Masuoka, Lee and Judy Salter, Derrick Anderson, the Murdy Foundation, Interwest Insurance, John Koeberer and Pam Pitts, Art Whitney and Caroline Beteta, and an as-yet-unnamed donor.

The Lassen Park Foundation is a 501.c.3 charitable, non-profit organization. More information about its work and Volcano Adventure Camp can be found at lassenparkfoundation.org , by writing to Kristen@lassenparkfoundation.org or calling 530-378-2600.
